I have posted my /etc/fstab and /etc/mtab below for further evaluation. My beef with this issue is just trying to understand how these files work together and how i can configure them so i don't get errors during startup. I looked in the /var/log/messages and the dmesg output but didn't see anything that looked like this.maybe i'm looking in the wrong place for the logs that can provide more detail. I also get an error at startup that says the flash drive is already mounted to /media from the mtab file.or something to this effect. However, i did notice that my flash drive started giving a permission denied error after connecting it (and attempting to access it) after the system was booted. I edited my fstab file to include the three devices, and all will usually automount each way i prefer. I would also like them to automount if attached while the system has already finished booting (ie. Ideally, if they are connected at startup, i would like the OS to auto mount them to my designated mount points. I have three devices: an external hard drive, a USB flash drive, and a USB connected IPOD. Instead of a box where you enter the search query, I'm just getting a blinking cursor. I have also noticed that for the last week, my Google page doesn't look right. I googled the offending IP address, and it comes up as an IP from Poland that is known to be associated with malware. I'm using MBAM Pro and Avira, and have run full scans with each program, but they come up clean. I noticed the last couple of days, I keep seeing MBAM blocking outgoing connections to 193.17.41.93.
